Building Career Pathways Through Partnership

At JPP, we believe, economic mobility begins with opportunity. And opportunity starts with the right support system. JPP's ongoing collaboration with Jefferson County Head Start is a powerful example of what can happen when organizations come together to uplift families, strengthen communities, and create real career pathways.

The Classroom Support Staff (CSS) Internship Program serves as a foundational step for parents to enter the workforce, earn certification through a paid internship, and gain professional experience that can apply to other career paths. It increases career exposure for low-income parents, offering access to employment opportunities they may not have previously considered.

A woman reads a book with a young boy in a library. Shelves of colorful books are visible in the background. They look engaged and focused.

One of the unique benefits of the CSS program is that it aligns with the needs of working parents. By providing positions within Head Start classrooms, parent's work schedules align with their children’s school hours, removing the barrier of high-cost childcare and making employment more accessible. This early learning career pathway empowers parents to enter the workforce, grow, advance, and build sustainable careers in education and beyond.

The program serves as a vital gateway for individuals from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds to enter the Early Childhood Education (ECE) industry. Participants receive comprehensive support throughout their educational journey, including assistance with enrollment in pre-CDA programs, GED preparation courses, and English classes. By investing in parents' education and professional development, the CSS program propels families toward economic stability and creates a more thriving community.

This year, we are proud to welcome six new interns to the CSS program. During onboarding, they were asked to share the best advice they’ve ever received—a simple reflection that turned into a powerful moment of inspiration. Their words serve as powerful reminders of strength, resilience, and purpose.
