At JPP, we believe that economic mobility begins with opportunity. And opportunity starts with the right support system. JPP's ongoing collaboration with Jefferson County Head Start is a powerful example of what can happen when organizations come together to uplift families, strengthen communities, and create real career pathways.

The CSS Internship Program: A Gateway to Success

The Classroom Support Staff (CSS) Internship Program serves as a foundational step for parents to enter the workforce. Through this program, parents can earn certification via a paid internship and gain professional experience that applies to various career paths. It increases career exposure for low-income parents, offering access to employment opportunities they may not have previously considered.

Meeting the Needs of Working Parents

One unique benefit of the CSS program is its alignment with the needs of working parents. By providing positions within Head Start classrooms, parents' work schedules align with their children’s school hours. This removes the barrier of high-cost childcare, making employment more accessible. This early learning career pathway empowers parents to enter the workforce, grow, advance, and build sustainable careers in education and beyond.

The program serves as a vital gateway for individuals from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds to enter the Early Childhood Education (ECE) industry. Participants receive comprehensive support throughout their educational journey. This includes assistance with enrollment in pre-CDA programs, GED preparation courses, and English classes. By investing in parents' education and professional development, the CSS program propels families toward economic stability and creates a more thriving community.

This year, we are proud to welcome six new interns to the CSS program. During onboarding, they were asked to share the best advice they’ve ever received. This simple reflection turned into a powerful moment of inspiration. Their words serve as reminders of strength, resilience, and purpose.

“I Matter.” – Aisha

"You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it.” – Janessa

“Knowledge is Power.” – Samantha

“Do not blame your past for your future.” – Desiray

“Never stop gaining knowledge; knowledge is power.” – Wafa

“Don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm.” - Valerie

One of the core values of the CSS program is the emphasis on lifelong learning. We believe that education is a continuous journey. By encouraging parents to pursue their educational goals, we help them build confidence and skills that will serve them for a lifetime. This commitment to learning not only benefits the individuals involved but also strengthens the community as a whole.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the CSS Program

As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding the CSS Internship Program. Our goal is to reach even more families in Jefferson County, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. We believe that every parent deserves the chance to thrive, and we are dedicated to making that a reality.

By investing in programs like the CSS Internship Program, we can help families achieve lasting self-sufficiency and thrive. Let's work together to create a community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
