Bite of Reality Kicks Off Financial February

JPP launched our annual Financial February Small Group Series by giving teens a Bite of Reality. This eye-opening, hands-on financial literacy simulation gives teens the chance to step into a “real life” scenario where they make decisions about housing, groceries, transportation, childcare, and debt—all within a safe, supportive learning environment. The experience helps teens better understand the true cost of everyday choices and builds confidence around budgeting and financial decision-making.

A Community Effort

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our volunteers. We are deeply grateful to JPP’s board members, Jefferson County employees, and community volunteers who generously gave their time to guide teens through the simulation. Their presence helped create an encouraging, interactive space where learning felt accessible and fun.

Credit Union of Denver sponsored and led the simulation with expertise and care, ensuring teens felt supported as they navigated new and sometimes surprising financial realities. Their partnership continues to be an important part of JPP’s commitment to building financial knowledge across generations.

Financial February Small Groups

Bite of Reality was the first of four small group sessions of Financial February, focusing on financial literacy for families and youth. Throughout the month, JPP hosts weekly sessions that dive deeper into topics like budgeting, credit scores, saving strategies, and debt reduction. These groups are designed to support families as they work toward greater financial stability and long-term economic mobility.

Financial literacy is a core component of JPP’s program and two-generation approach. By equipping parents and teens with practical financial tools and knowledge, we help families make informed decisions, reduce stress, and move closer to their goals—whether that’s building savings, improving credit, or planning for the future.

Events like the Bite of Reality show that learning about money doesn’t have to be intimidating—it can be interactive, empowering, and even fun. Kicking off Financial February with strong community partnerships sets the tone for a month of meaningful learning and conversation around financial stability. We are deeply grateful to Credit Union of Denver, our volunteers, and our community partners for investing in the financial futures of JPP families.
