Finding Community and Support

When Kapri first heard about JPP through her Family Support Specialist at Head Start, she felt hesitant. “I used to be so quiet,” she recalls. “I felt alone. I didn’t know where to turn or who to talk to. But I knew I needed support, and JPP felt like a chance worth taking.”

That chance turned into a life-changing journey. When she joined JPP, her children were in Head Start. She was searching for both a sense of community and a path to earn her Associate’s degree. With the encouragement and accountability she found in JPP, Kapri achieved her dream of graduating with an Associate’s degree in Social Work from Red Rocks Community College.

A New Chapter Begins

Today, Kapri works as an Admissions Counselor. She uses her own story to inspire and support other students. Alongside her educational and career milestones, she’s focused on building financial stability, improving her mental and physical health, and increasing her independence.

She had a particularly proud moment last year when she transitioned off her housing voucher. This was an important milestone in her economic journey. “It was something I put off for a long time, but to be able to not only dream it, but actually achieve it. It’s incredible,” she says. “JPP has been the best support system I’ve had in my adult life.”

Overcoming Challenges

Her journey hasn’t been without challenges. “The hardest part was quieting the critical voice in my head,” Kapri shares. “I had to start focusing on the positive, even in the tough moments. When stress isn’t your constant focus, you can begin to focus on other things.”

Through JPP, Kapri has found more than professional and academic success; she has found peace, confidence, and stability for her entire family. Her children have grown in confidence, learning when to speak up and when to use their “inside voices.” The change is visible in the way they carry themselves.

Looking Ahead: Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Kapri is focused on earning her bachelor’s degree, growing her savings, and continuing to thrive in a career she loves. “JPP showed me my potential and helped me believe in it. Maybe in the beginning I didn’t know my purpose. But now I feel like a whole new person, with the confidence to lead me toward that purpose.”

As she prepares to graduate from the program, she feels a mix of pride and nostalgia. “It’s sad in a way, but it also shows me I’ve reached goals I never thought I could. And I know that even after graduation, I’ll always be part of JPP.”

Encouragement for New Families

Her advice to new families? “If you’re looking for a community that becomes family, it’s JPP. Don’t be afraid to grow. Don’t give up. You are capable of more than you know.”
